How SAK Company Became Gaza's Lifeline: Delivering Over 2.8 Million Hot Meals During the Crisis

When the conflict in Gaza escalated, hundreds of thousands of families were displaced from their homes with no access to cooking facilities, clean water, or basic food supplies. In the midst of this unprecedented humanitarian crisis, SAK Company — through its sister enterprise ALMATHAF Kitchen — stepped forward to address one of the most urgent needs: feeding the displaced population. ALMATHAF Kitchen, operated under the SAK umbrella, rapidly scaled its operations from a professional catering service into a full-scale emergency meal production facility. Drawing on SAK's decades of operational expertise, logistics networks, and deep knowledge of Gaza's geography, ALMATHAF Kitchen partnered with some of the world's leading humanitarian organizations to deliver hot, nutritious meals to families who had lost everything. The World Central Kitchen Partnership: 2.54 Million Meals and Counting The largest of these partnerships is with World Central Kitchen (WCK), the renowned disaster-relief organization founded by Chef José Andrés. Under a landmark contract spanning February 2025 through February 2027, ALMATHAF Kitchen committed to producing and distributing over 2.54 million hot meals across Gaza. This operation requires an extraordinary level of coordination — sourcing ingredients under wartime conditions, maintaining food safety standards in a disrupted environment, and navigating dangerous delivery routes to reach families in displacement camps, shelters, and makeshift settlements. SAK's ability to secure this partnership stems from nearly four decades of proven project execution in Gaza. Since its founding in 1987, SAK has completed over 150 major projects valued at more than $300 million, building the trust and track record that international organizations rely on when selecting local partners for emergency operations. Expanding Reach with Anera, Phoenix, and Ajyal Beyond the WCK partnership, ALMATHAF Kitchen has established meal production agreements with several other humanitarian agencies. For Anera (American Near East Refugee Aid), the kitchen has produced over 200,000 meals, supporting the organization's broader relief efforts across Gaza. A partnership with Phoenix has delivered more than 95,000 meals, while a collaboration with Ajyal has produced 19,800 meals for vulnerable communities. Together, these partnerships bring the total to over 2.8 million hot meals — a figure that continues to grow daily as ALMATHAF Kitchen maintains round-the-clock production schedules to meet the relentless demand. Why Local Expertise Matters in Crisis Response International humanitarian organizations have long recognized that effective disaster response depends on strong local partners. SAK Company's presence in Gaza since 1987, its extensive fleet of heavy machinery and transport vehicles, its established supplier relationships, and its intimate understanding of the local terrain make it an indispensable partner for large-scale relief operations. Where international agencies provide funding and coordination frameworks, SAK provides the on-the-ground capability to turn plans into plates of food. ALMATHAF Kitchen's operation is not simply about cooking — it is a complex supply chain that involves procuring ingredients through extremely constrained border crossings, maintaining cold-chain storage in areas with unreliable electricity, managing large teams of kitchen staff working under extraordinary pressure, and coordinating distribution across a territory where infrastructure has been severely damaged. As the crisis continues, SAK Company and ALMATHAF Kitchen remain committed to expanding their capacity and reaching every family in need. For SAK, this work is not a departure from its core mission — it is an extension of the same commitment to building and sustaining life in Palestine that has defined the company for nearly four decades.

SAK and World Central Kitchen: Delivering Large-Scale Meal Support in Gaza

During the challenging humanitarian conditions in Gaza, SAK – Saqqa & Khoudary Co. took part in large-scale emergency meal operations in partnership with World Central Kitchen (WCK). Through this partnership, SAK was responsible for supporting the preparation and supply of hot meals for camps across the northern and southern Gaza Strip. The operation required the coordination of experienced teams, large-volume food preparation, packaging, quality monitoring, and organized delivery to ensure that meals reached their destinations efficiently and reliably. As part of the project, more than 2,540,000 meals have been supplied to date, demonstrating SAK’s ability to manage large-scale food operations while maintaining high standards of quality, hygiene, and food safety. The operation was supported by dedicated teams responsible for cooking, handling, packaging, and delivery, alongside procedures designed to maintain food safety and continuously monitor quality throughout the process. For SAK, this partnership represents more than a large-scale catering operation. It reflects the company’s operational capacity, its ability to work under demanding conditions, and its commitment to delivering reliable meal solutions to communities in need. From preparation to packaging and delivery, SAK continues to build its experience in managing high-volume meal supply operations with efficiency, reliability, and care.
